AFLAS Gaskets
For exceptionally tough sealing environments, Blaylock offers material and parts from Aflas®. This powerful flouroelsastomer, often referenced by its chemical callout as TFE/P is a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and propylene. Blaylock’s Aflas® offers 57% fluorine content and can handle a wide temperature spectrum from 0 degrees to 440 Fahrenheit. This material is highly resistant to many chemicals, steam, acids, bases, steam and ozone. Also works well with the following chemicals; acetonitrile, acrylonitrile, aniline, 1-butanol, carbitol, carbon disulfide, n,n-dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide, ethanol, ethylene glycol, isoamyl alcohol, methanol, methyl cellosolve, n-methylformamide, nitrobenzene, nitromethane, and oil of turpentine.
Difference Between Aflas® and Viton®:
These exceptional material are compatible in many similar environments – however there are some key differentiating factors. Viton® does not work well with steam or exceptionally hot water. In many alkaline environments, Viton® can suffer and Aflas® may be the better choices. Conversely, Aflas® can become brittle at low temperatures, so in that arena, Viton® could be a better option.
