Mica Gasket Supplier
High-heat applications require specialized gaskets and seals. Mica gasket materials rise to the occasion, performing well even at extreme temperatures. At Blaylock Gasket & Packing, we provide both stock and custom mica gaskets suitable for various sectors, including automotive and energy production. Our inventory includes mica sheet materials that can be custom cut to meet the specific sizes and shapes required for demanding applications.
Properties of Mica Gasket Materials
As a mineral, mica has excellent compression resistance. This is coupled with high tensile strength. Mica is very resilient and does not deform easily even in high-stress environments, making it ideal for use in aerospace, oil and gas, power generation, and manufacturing environments. For example, our mica gaskets might be a good choice for sealing liquids in a pressure chamber.
Additionally, Blaylock’s mica gaskets resist many chemicals including solvents, acids, bases, and certain oils. They are a viable solution for chemical processing and oil and gas refining.
Thermal Properties
Mica can withstand consistent temperatures of 1850 degrees Fahrenheit. It also resists fire and can be exposed to flames without burning. Finally, mica gasket material does not conduct heat well. This low conductivity allows it to act as an insulating material in some applications.
Electrical Properties
Mica also has several desirable electrical properties. It is non-conductive, providing a dielectric strength of 25 kV/mm or better. Mica gaskets provide resistance against arcing, which minimizes arc corrosion of materials. It also offers permeability to microwaves, which can be beneficial in applications such as remote sensing, imaging using microwaves, and certain testing chambers.
Applications for Mica Gaskets
Blaylock Gasket & Packing’s mica gaskets are ideal for applications that need a high resistance to heat. It is among the most weather-resistant gasket materials we offer, with some mica gaskets able to withstand temperatures up to almost 2,000 degrees. Some top uses for mica gaskets include:
We source TerMica and TerMica M, which are phlogopite mica gasket materials that resist high temperatures, chemicals, and pressure. They provide long-term service life without succumbing to challenging operating conditions. Its heat-resistant and electrical isolating properties make mica an excellent alternative to asbestos for insulating material.
