Cork & Rubber Gasket

For decades, cork products have been a staple in the sealing sector. From oil pan gaskets to flange faces, cork gasketing was used just about everywhere. The advent of cork & rubber composite sheets has been a game changer.

If your project requires cork & rubber, Blaylock Gasket & Packing is your source, offering an extensive variety of high-quality corks, combined with elastomers like Neoprene, Buna Nitrile, EPDM, Silicone, Synthetic Sponge and others.

Cork and Rubber offers a number of key benefits when chosen as your material. It’s eco-friendly, solvent resistant, temperature change resistant, easier to cut than rubber and affordable. We also offer cork and rubber reinforced with cloth. Cork and rubber is a popular material in the transportation, automotive, oil and gas and fracking industries.

What applications might use Cork & Rubber?

Cork & rubber is an excellent choice for low pressure, non-traditional sealing environments and those with low torque and bolt pressure. You might find cork & rubber gaskets on:

  • Bull gear, pinion pony rod and frac pumps
  • Crank shafts and cases
  • Sump pumps
  • Case covers
  • Valve covers and doors
  • Transformers and switchgears
  • Oil seals
  • Engine gaskets
  • Industrial oil and gas applications

What makes Cork & Rubber a great gasket?

The same principles that allow corks in wine bottles to work apply to gaskets. The cork swells without losing its integrity – the result is the ability to get a terrific seal even at low compression. Cork granules are bonded to rubber particles – and in a way, the rubber fills in the gaps, ensuring a tight seal. Rubber by itself may often be difficult to seal over large or uneven surfaces, leading to leaks. The compressibility and utility under saturation with substances like oil drastically increase the likelihood of success.

CORK & BUNA NITRILE
Our most popular cork & rubber, cork and buna, is a nearly unanimous choice in the oil and gas sector. Although, buna also can make a great general purpose seal as well. Check out our nitrile page for more information.

Meets the following specs:
ASTM F104 F226000 M2 T
MIL-G-12803 P2255A (superseded in 1997 by ASTM F104)
AMS-C-6183 (MIL-C-6183b) Type I or II, Cl 1, Gr B

For specific application recommendations consult Blaylock Gasket. Failure to select proper sealing products could result in property damage and/or serious personal injury.

Cork & Neoprene

Cork/Neoprene or Neoprene bonded cork displays good properties in water resistance and is relatively inexpensive compared to other sealing material options. The combination of Neoprene and cork seal well at low bolt torque and flange pressures. Its service temperature typically reaches 250°F.
